Art Therapy for Kids

Children can find it hard to put feelings into words. Art therapy uses creative techniques which the children are familiar with to express themselves, such as drawing, painting and making sculptures with clay.
Most children take great pleasure in the art-making process and it can provide them with an easier way to express themselves than strictly verbal means.
The artwork can help the children to explore their emotions and experiences. The therapist can help the child to understand and deal with the issues that arise and to see themselves from new perspectives. Sometimes the therapist works with a specific theme or a healing story. Together with the art therapist the child uses his or her own creativity to spark and guide desired change.
The overall aim is to enable the child to develop on an individual level through the use of art.
